BIOGRAPHY
“Color Wheel amazes, with a sonic dexterity unmatched in drone-metal or any other music for that matter. Growing have ventured into uncharted territory, where sheets of noise meld with metallic noodling and blissfully numbing drones, displaying their penchant for exploratory electronic manipulations that move at the speed of the sun. ” Tokion Magazine

“Growing pour on one grinding chord, one melody, and with the two build a huge and thrilling edifice.” Pitchfork

COLOR WHEEL is GROWING’s (Joe DeNardo and Kevin Doria) fourth album, the first record for Glasgow’s Mogwai-run ROCK ACTION RECORDS. Recorded and mixed “In the Pines” of Montreal with engineers Dave Bryant (GODSPEED! YOU BLACK EMPEROR) and Craig Brown, and mastered with GROWING by Joe Lambert at TRUTONE, NYC.

The challenge for Growing on this album was how to continually evolve and not be just another name in the drone rock/noise camp. Color Wheel not only meets this challenge head on, but exceeds expectations.

Where previously, there was a wall we now only see a vista of drifting horizons, A GREEN PASTURE glows under a storm-diffused sunset. Heavy, leaden forms are melted into floating shapes, strings and strands, and spectrums bounce on CUMULUSLESS clouds above us. Light has a rhythm, the land is a force, and negotiations between the two begin with a PEACE OFFERING. At the bottom of an inverted canyon lies the wreckage of a fleet of BLUE ANGELS, under a prism canopy dubbed the FRIENDLY CONFINES. All of this takes place in an era like no other, upon a surface-scape conflated with it’s own negative self, reflected in a black mirror, in the frozen cire of some giant, silver rondure. All of this occurs during the FANCY PERIOD.
